Comparador de GPS

Un navegador GPS puede ser una gran ayuda en nuestros viajes, pero no deja de ser un auxiliar. El sentido común sigue siendo lo primero: usa estos dispositivos de forma lógica y ten en cuenta que puede haber errores en los mapas.

Los GPS nos facilitan las cosas, pero se han dado casos de personas perdidas por las malas indicaciones de su navegador.

Programar tu GPS

En modo navegación, lo importante es localizar 3 opciones importantes: vías con peaje, pistas sin asfaltar, y ruta más rápida.

• 1. Desactivar la opción de peajes: si quieres ahorrar dinero puede que te interese desactivarla cuando calcules la ruta.
• 2. Desactivar la opción de caminos de tierra (o pistas sin asfaltar): conviene tenerla  desactivada, salvo que  vayamos a usar nuestro navegador en un todoterreno por el campo (o si te planteas hacer una ruta como caminante).
• 3. Habilitar la opción de ruta más rápida: y distinguirla de la de ruta más corta (no son lo mismo). Lo más interesante es preferir la ruta más rapida para evitar recorridos retorcidos.

En modo visualización del mapa, localiza 3 opciones también importantes: vista 2D/3D, vista en el sentido de la marcha (o con el N arriba) y modo día/noche automático.

• La vista 3D y la vista en el sentido de la marcha son las opciones preferidas por defecto, mientras que la vista 2D es muy útil cuando queremos contemplar la ruta completa o consultar el estado del tráfico en puntos de la ruta alejados del que estamos en ese momento.
• La opción con el N arriba es conveniente en carreteras de montaña para confirmar que estamos yendo en la dirección correcta.

El modo noche cambia el fondo luminoso de la pantalla a un color apagado más confortable, ya que tenemos las pupilas muy dilatadas, mientras el modo día usa colores brillantes para contrarrestar los reflejos de la luz solar en la pantalla.

Trucos extra

• Comprueba que las unidades están en kilómetros.
• Habilita la opción «mostrar gasolineras».
• Es útil que el navegador muestre la velocidad instantánea y la hora estimada de llegada.
• Consultar una ruta entre 2 puntos remotos que no sean el lugar donde nos encontramos. Esta posibilidad se encuentra en «planificación de rutas» y es útil para tener previsto cómo sortear un punto conflictivo.
• Seleccionar un destino sin introducir la dirección. A veces no conocemos la dirección exacta (o la hemos olvidado) pero somos capaces de situarla sobre el mapa. Basta con desplazar el mapa hasta localizar dicho punto y mantener apretado el dedo en la pantalla (aparece un menú que permite esta opción).

El mejor GPS para hacer senderismo

Hay muchas razones por la que es necesario tener un GPS para hacer senderismo, aunque siendo realistas solo lo vemos necesario para aquellos que les guste explorar, se adentren en la alta montaña, asciendan en condiciones meteorológicas adversas o simplemente, si deciden acometer rutas que no conocen. Nos nos gusta hablar de marcas, pero cuando hablamos de GPS de montaña inevitablemente salen marcas como Garmin ya que pocas marcas  son capaces de igualarla. Si hablamos de relojes con GPS, es otra cosa, pero son dispositivos distintos para escenarios muy concretos.

Hay pocas marcas decentes donde elegir

En este artículo parece que vamos hablar solo de Garmin, pero cierto es que a día de hoy no tienen casi competencia debido a la falta de marcas en este sector tan especializado. Si hablamos de running si, pero esto es una cosa muy diferente. Hoy en día en las tiendas especializadas de montaña solo hay Garmin y a veces Magellan o CompeGPS. ¿El motivo?. La variedad de mapas, software disponible, la gran comunidad de usuarios y sobre todo por la calidad y el acabado. Quizá los Garmin no tengan la pantalla de un móvil como un iPhone, pero te aseguro que éste último no aguanta climatología adversa, nieve, hielo, barro o agua.

La tendencia de llevar un móvil como GPS

Para muchos el mejor GPS para hacer senderismo es el propio móvil, ya que dispone de multitud de aplicaciones de mapas. Pero ojo con esto. Pueden cubrir la mayor parte de los escenarios, pero hay situaciones que se quedan muy cojos por los siguientes motivos:

• Escasez de bateria. Un GPS de montaña aguanta hasta 16/25h con dos pilas. Un móvil lleva batería de litio que duran poco y no se llevan bien con el frío. Puedes llevar una batería externa, pero el peso al final manda.
• Meteorología. Claramente no la soportan. Si llueve se estropean. Si hace sol no se puede leer la pantalla. Pero lo peor, si hace mucho frío la batería no dura ni un telediario.
• Son débiles. Así es. Se te pueden caer o arañar, sencillamente no te gustaría romperlo.
• Pantallas. No se llevan tampoco bien ni con el frío ni con los guantes.
• Hardware. El GPS de un móvil no es tan preciso como los de un GPS de montaña tanto por la antena como por el procesador. A parte, las nuevas generaciones de GPS para practicar senderismo o trekking admiten tanto cobertura satelital de GPS como de GLONASS.

Yo no lo recomiendo si vas a realizar largas travesías o si practicáis senderismo en lugares fríos. Eso si, hay una cosa a su favor sin duda, la variedad de apps. Muchas de las apps están compitiendo de tu a tu en usabilidad y funcionalidad de un GPS avanzado, pero a nivel de hardware me temo que aún están a años luz.

Podemos hablar de primera mano de la mayoría de ellos, ya que han sido compañeros infatigables en nuestras aventuras. Por desgracia ya he perdido dos en los últimos tres años, quizá por eso hemos tiempo tiempo suficiente de probar varios de los modelos que vemos hoy. A día de hoy Miguel tiene un GPSMAP 62 y en mi caso un Oregon 600. ¿Cual es mejor?. Para gustos los colores, veamos cual te gusta más.

Left Align

This is a paragraph. It is right aligned. It is a bit more conservative in it’s views. It’s prefers to not be told what to do or how to do it. Right align totally owns a slew of guns and loves to head to the range for some practice. Which is cool and all. I mean, it’s a pretty good shot from at least four or five football fields away. Dead on. So boss.

Justify Align

This is a paragraph. It is justify aligned. It gets really mad when people associate it with Justin Timberlake. Typically, justified is pretty straight laced. It likes everything to be in it’s place and not all cattywampus like the rest of the aligns. I am not saying that makes it better than the rest of the aligns, but it does tend to put off more of an elitist attitude.

On the topic of alignment, it should be noted that users can choose from the options of None, Left, Right, and Center. In addition, they also get the options of Thumbnail, Medium, Large & Fullsize.
